[edit] Welcome

Welcome, Guesty-Persony-Thingy, to the Central Wikia!

We are a friendly community here; most of us are active on an individual wiki, and many of us are active on more than one.

If you're looking for help, use the Community Portal or Help Desk. For finding a helper or a staff, speaking your language, see the page Staff and Helpers by language. If your wiki needs something done, leave the details on the Volunteer Portal. If you need assistance from a member of staff, leave a message with one of the Community Team.

You can get live help from community members and staff in our IRC channel. There are also channels for larger Wikia and their communities. Here you can socialize and get to know your community!

If you have an idea for a new wiki, please let us know! Check out new wikis and see if any of them interest you. A directory of existing wikis is also available.

Finally, please keep an eye on the recent changes to see what the community is up to and to help revert spam and vandalism.

Enjoy! --Slade (msg) 17:23, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adding a new channel to irc.wikia.com

Hi there!

Sorry for not replying on IRC, but... I did in fact reply. Just haven't noticed that I wasn't identified to nickserv. :P

Anyway: yes, I can add your channel to the CGI interface. However, it's probably best that you go through the Community team with this request. Once they greenlight it, I'll try to add it ASAP.

Happy editing. --TOR 14:11, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Calendar

Have you seen google/calendar? It is close to what is needed - but a little cumbersome for numerous calendars intersecting. A hybrid of the one I mentioned in the post, and it, would probably be a good thing.

Which IRC would I find you on?

Ianm

[edit] Me on Halopedia

Erm... is that United Kingdom article still in existence? cos i added it 2 wrong Wikia XD. i was gonna add it 2 da Royal Family Wiki when i noticed it wasn't there. scrolled 2 far 2 notice the Halopedia Logo. so nif its still in existence...delete it. oh and incidently most UNSC weapons featured in halo are rumoured to be decen ded from Weapons produced in UK.

Like... the Sniper Rifle was invented in the American Civil War. Confederate troops equipped with barrel-length three power scopes mounted on the then premium British Whitworth rifle had been known to kill Union officers at ranges bordering 800 yards, an unheard-of distance at that time. Also Roosevelt asked Churchil if he liked an idea for a gathering of Allied nations (similar to the Legue of Nations) Churchil decided he liked United Nations (and thus UNSC has its name from UN) Also UK was a founding Member. Forerunner P.S. when banning someone... it says that you should talk to the person who banned you. Actualy the only place you can edit is your talk page. (but only if the small '=' sign is present). PPS. didn't i tell You the US page will suffer constant Vandelism. You are getting a little stressed out take a few days off or somat...you banned a person for vandelisin 1ce, and as i have his MSN, he told me a friend of his (not me i'm ot his friend) dared him. also i DID say that Anti-Americanism is on the rise. [edit] Help

RR says reason #1 whyhe blocked me was 'Personal attacks on users due to...' he is talking about when i got rid of ur comment and u blocked me then we called it even. yet he says he will not drop #1. Thats the only thing close to 'personal' attack. Also... Although i'm banned on halopedia... when u put the = signs, i can click on the smaller edit button and edit. Only on my talk page sop how come when u get banned it says that you should talk tot he admin that blocked u. you'd have 2 go on a neutral wiki wich will be all 2 conusing.

[edit] My sig thing

could u go on the template my sig is on and change it? i need it 2 say 先行者招呼那些不显示坚持不懈 the messege is a joke messege. it reads...'The forerunner greets these not to demonstrate relentlessly' I'm guessing you know what that means?

actualy i can edit!!! then exacly how is my talkpage different? if u go on history. u will know muhahahhhahahahaha. You didn't say that. Also DO NOT edit my talk page by putting the 'this user is blocked' thing on as all u need 2 do is go on Userpage 2 find that out. all i said was that if u eva use the user blocked template, don't put the on user pages as it could make da user think he/she can't edit his/her talk page either (neva said u did)

[edit] Halopedias Sidebar update

How did u lot get it to have arrows on sidebar to show da stuff on? cos RE Wiki needs one of those.

[edit] why?

why did you remove a Vote! [F]

[edit] Marathon Game

I've undone your edit on Gaming reguarding the naming of the wiki for Maraton Game. The justification of my action is best explained by quoting the Hubs FAQ:

Wikis are sometimes listed under the topic rather than the actual name of the wiki -- for example, "Scroogepedia" might be listed as "Charles Dickens Wiki". A new reader who's browsing through the hub listing might not recognize the clever name, so we try to make it easy for them to find what they're looking for.

Hope you don't take offense to my actions. -PanSola 08:13, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] hubs and stars

Hi GPT, thanks for the hub suggestion. PanSola and Toughpigs have been working on the hubs so I suggest you post a note about this on the hubs talk page and get a conversation going! angies@Wikia (talk) 16:46, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Stars

Guesty, did you look at all these wikis you've been ranking? A lot of the stuff in the entertainment section was wrong. --Dragonclaws(talk) 07:07, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I've been going through it based on the statistics page in each wiki. I noticed coming in from Boy Meets World, which was incorrectly marked as silver. --Dragonclaws(talk) 07:11, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi GPT - Thanks for the three star system. Unfortunately, it appears that this broke a template so now c: is showing for many wikis. (for example, see the New Wikis Hub). Can you fix that up? Thanks, -- BillK @Wikia (talk) 16:08, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
I took care of that... The three "special hubs" didn't get the updated templates, so GPT's first drafts on the original templates left those broken. I reverted Template:Link2 and Template:Star2, so now the special hubs are fine. -- Danny (talk) 17:09, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Star colors

Hi, GPT -- Wow, awesome job on the new hub template! I really like the idea of giving the wikis different "ranks" -- I think it'll encourage some of the wikis to keep pushing up their page count, and earn a higher star. You had to do a lot of work with those, too -- that's a lot of wikis to check, and it looks like it took you a few hours.

I'm not sure about the colors, and I'm wondering if we can tweak that a little bit. I understand the bronze - silver - gold concept -- but when you look at it on the page, your eye is drawn to the dark stars more than the light ones. The bronze stars stand out, while the silver ones sort of fade into the white background, so visually, the ranking looks like the bronze is best, followed by gold, then silver.

I know the explanation is written across the top, but people are more likely to just look at the stars and figure it out visually... The sentences across the top are kind of the "instruction manual", and who reads instruction manuals? :)

So I'm trying to think of another color scheme that would indicate the ranking visually. Maybe the same color, but getting darker -- pink - light red - dark red, or light yellow - yellow - deep gold. Another possibility is something like yellow - orange - red, going from one end of the scale to another.

What do you think? Would any of those work for you? -- Danny (talk) 17:09, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Pretty much anything will work... but you'll have to ask sannse to make the stars for 'em, 'cause I can't do it. =S =D --NOTASTAFF GPT(talk)(eating) 01:59, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I'll see if Sannse or Scott can do it. I looked at the template, and I can't quite figure it out... Once I have different color stars, how do I add them to the template? -- Danny (talk) 16:14, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
There's a pattern; see if you can figure it out. =P If not, just put them here and I'll do it for you. =D --NOTASTAFF GPT(talk)(eating) 21:39, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] stuff for sunday

Thanks again for willing to help leading the discussion this Sunday. Some of the things I'd like to see covered are:

  1. Greet everyone, find out which wikis they are involved in
  2. Get people to nominate and vote for the Featured gaming wikia.
  3. Any recent issues with any of the wikis
  4. How we as a gaming wiki community can collectively (as opposed to individually) help newly created wikis, or struggling wikis.

You are mroe than welcome to toss in additional topics for Sunday (-: -PanSola 23:36, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

  • Thank you for moving the discussion off of the PotC Wiki. I'm not usually like this to people, just people I know are from other wikis and are trying to "branch" into something I take great care of. I'm sorry I seem so distrusting, I hope you can make some worthwhile contributions on the PotC Wiki.--Lord Cutler BeckettPort Royal 18:29, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lord Cutler Beckett

Greetings, Guesty-Persony-Thingy. I will try to make this as short as possible though that may be difficult, I want to file a formal complaint of corruption against Lord Cutler Beckett of the Pirates of the Caribbean Wiki. I know you will take this seriously as you have witnessed first hand what he is like, the ownership and rudeness you experienced from him is only the tip of the ice berg I will list his crimes (that I am aware of) below.

I certanely hope this has brought some light to the matter. The only term for Lord Cutler Becketts Adminship so far is a communist dictatorship. I myself was banned simply for standing up for myself. I will be returning to PotC Wiki shortly to bring this complaint the community's eyes, to start a pettion on the forum to see if anyone else feels the same, and to put fourth a new candidate. I can only pray that the presence of an investigation will spur others to stand up for themselves and maybe then we can topple this bully end his reighn of fear and install a fair and democratic Administator. - Drexyl 11:35, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Bravo to you Drexyl for finaly standing up to that control freak. I had a run in with him not long ago, we had a disagreement about the color of something he said it was blue I said it was black, I uploaded an image proving that i was right and he destroyed the evedince by deleting the image and threatening to ban me if i re-uploaded it.Thomas Faye 00:28, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tittle

hey im curious could you explain me the reasons on needing the title template on the halo wiki? --Cizagna (Talk) 18:04, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fanon vs. Fan Fiction

I think we need some more agreement within the community on this, and also some more consistency across Wikia. Perhaps if we changed all the incorrect uses of "fanon" at the same time, it would people to understand that we're not changing what the wiki is about, but simply correcting some terminology. However, that's a big job, and not something I can do immediately. I suggest leaving the discussion on halofanon up for a bit longer and I'll plan a way of dealing with this. Angela@Wikia (talk) 09:26, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template:User:Manticore

The whole point of my interwiki template is that it is transcluded, and thus kept up to date on all wikis. You will find this is the same with the majority of users employing one. Don't subst the template on any wikis, and don't edit it if you don't know what you are doing. -- Manticore (talk) 16:04, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

The links do work when it is transcluded, and interwiki transclusion has always been buggy; the template will occassionally not show. -- Manticore (talk) 09:58, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cookies at FFXI, etc.

To answer your second question, yes, this is due to the different URL. In the future we'd like to enable shared cookies on sites that have custom domains, but since (a) it's very tricky and (b) not really that hard on the users, this is not very high on our to do list.

I'll see what I can do about an FFXI IRC gateway. Thanks for the info. --TOR@Wikia 13:20, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
