Wikia - creating communities
[edit] Gunpedia
Angela, I've recently become a SysOp on the Guns wiki, and I was wondering, it isn't very active yet, and I just wanted to ask if you knew anything about firearms, because if you did, I wanted to ask if you have any known sources online, or if you know anything about firearms enough to help out with some articles. I figured since you are Wikia staff, you'd know a lot more about things. Brain40 14:08, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, it's not a topic I know about. You might want to ask Jimbo Wales though. I don't know if he'll have time to help, but he does know more on that topic than I do. Angela talk 04:51, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. Brain40 00:31, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bots
I have just created a new wiki-site.com,and since I am the creator of the site, I am bureaucrat and able to make myself bot. What is a bot? This doesn't do anything. --Bender Bending Rodriguez 19:36, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- That isn't a Wikia site. Perhaps they don't have bots there. Angela talk 04:51, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, then, what are bots supposed to do then? --Bender Bending Rodriguez 19:02, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Another Question...
And Angela, I have one more question: What exactly are the restrictions for what users can do on Wikia Central? Brain40 01:37, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- The Central Wikia is for briefly describing the wikis that we host and the forums are for people to ask questions to the whole Wikia community. There are also some cross-wiki policies here. This wiki isn't for creating actual content though. That should go on the relevant wiki (see the List of Wikia to find the right one). Angela talk 11:47, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. Brain40 10:11, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Kuk Sool Won
Thank you so much for approving the Kuk Sool Won wikia. It has always been my dream to be an administrator. Thank you so much. Jimwitz 17:55, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh yah, when I tried to download my Wikia image it said my file was corrupted? What should I do for that?
- Do you mean the logo or something else? Perhaps you were saving it under the wrong file type. You could use iaza to convert it to a png. Angela talk 06:05, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Yah it's the logo and it still after Iaza says my file is corrupted???

[edit] Another Nintendo question
Could you upload nintendozh.png at zh.nintendo.wikia.com, as Wiki.png? Thanks, Wikada - Talk Contributions 01:24, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- done :-) --rieke 08:40, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] FR Wiki sysop rights
Hi, I'm the admin of the Forgotten Realms wiki (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com). I want to give a couple of my contributors Admin access but I can't get to the Special:Makesysop page, despite the fact that I'm on the list of people who are supposed to be able to. Could you get in contact with me about this or fix it for me? I adopted the wiki from someone else who went inactive in case it matters. This is what was recorded originally: 18:54, 14 December 2005 Angela changed group membership for User:Hashimashadoo from (none) to (none) (=sysop)
Thanks! --hash
- You need bureaucrat rights for that, not just sysop rights. I'll give you that now. See Help:User access levels for more information. Angela talk 15:29, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Anarchy Online Knowledge Base
I am going to start to try to spend a lot of time building Anarchy Online Knowledge Base. I would like to have sysop and buricratic tools. Thanks a lot. --Sir James Paul 00:27, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- I would also like at Atheist wikia and Jesus wikia. Can you please get back to me soon. Happy new year and god bless. --Sir James Paul 19:40, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalism
Angela, there has been a lot of vandalism going on the past few days, as well as the past amount of hours, on the Cell phone wiki, could you please ban the user who is doing it? Brain40 [talk] [my domain] 14:07, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Novelas Wiki Admin Rights
Not long after you gave admin rights back to me on the Novelas wiki, the request for adminship page was busy again. Now it's been seven days since User:Serprex has nominated himself as the third (and second active) admin for the site, and his track record looks good to me. User:JWSchmidt requested that I notify you about this so that you can take a look over his request.
I would also like to point out that since getting my admin rights back, I've continued to make plenty of constructive contributions to the Novelas wiki, so that now I have over 3000 edits (and I've at the same time tried to cut down on the number of deletions I made). I suppose that I may be eligible for bureaucratship, as the only other bureaucrat of the wiki, User:Jmoysae, has long been gone, so that the position is apparently empty; and as the second admin on the site I'm runner-up. I also suppose that sooner or later more people on the site will want admin rights, so that you would save yourself quite a bit of time by handing the responsibility to someone else, especially since I am by far the most active user on that site.
Sincerely, Yunzhong Hou 01:34, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've made Serprex an admin. If you think there's a need for the wiki to have a bureaucrat, please nominate yourself on w:c:fiction:Novelas:Requests for adminship. Angela talk 17:03, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I hope we didn't cause too much trouble :)
Hi, In the Spanish speaking countries today is "The day of the Holy Innocents", which is like your "April's Fool". That's the reason for the notice saying Wikia has closed down Inciclopedia in Inciclopedia's main page. Any link on the page, including the fake Jimbo signature links to a page were it says it's all a joke. My apologizes if you got any complaints or something.--Rataube 14:21, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Don't worry. I didn't see any complaints. I just had the page on my watchlist and was confused. I often get confused with Uncyclopedia sites though. There's a fine line between vandalism and jokes sometimes. :) Angela talk 17:01, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Spotlight
Angela, I need help, how can the guns wiki be more advertised? Such as, when it comes to letting more people know about it. Brain40 [talk] [my domain] 12:31, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- List it on either Forum:Wikia Spotlight (and maybe email gil at wikia.com to point out your suggestion since he adds those and might not notice it there) or suggest it on Wikia news box suggestions since these suggestions will be added to the Wikia messages section when Wikimedia's fundraising drive ends. Angela talk 18:24, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Public Diplomacy
Thanks for setting us up, Angela! I exported and imported the pages from the original public diplomacy wiki and it's now live at http://publicdiplomacy.wikia.com
My only concern is that there may be remnants of spam-bot linkage embedded within, as we had a problem with that (mostly casino related) for a while. Please let me know via e-mail if there's anything i should be watching out for. Thanks Uscpublicdiplomacy 04:54, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Maybe I can join the team? I know Wikia, my English isn't fluent and I'm not using contact forms other than IRC, wiki, e-mail and mailing lists, but I'm here all day long. Szoferka 10:52, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Community Team: Mvp14
Hello Angela, I wan't to know what are the skills you look for in a new member of your team. I'm spanish, and I've joined my first wiki (inciclopedia) in September 2006. I'm admin there and I contribute to other spanish wikis. I've got good level in english and I can use e-mail as a contact form.
I think I could help spanish community with their doubts and questions, helping Zuirdj. I can be here almost all day. Do you think is soon for me or can I be useful? -- Mvp14 23:04, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think is soon for me to have a job in wikia, I will ask Zuirdj about how can I help Spanish community, because I also think there isn't much work yet. However, I woludn't matter if you ask me later while looking for staff. Thank you for the answer and happy new year. -- Mvp14 23:25, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Videojuego
On the other hand, I will apply for your help in Wikijuegos. Another user (Bob007) besides me, need the sysop status to change some FAQs and protect several pages. We have talked to the burocraut (Onipsis) but he is inactive since november 20th. I hope you can help us. Another admin has supported this decision. Thank you again. -- Mvp14 23:43, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Combining Wikis
I've discovered that three wikis--Fiction/Novelas, Conworld, and Basilica--have about the same aims/types of content. I was wondering if they could all be united into a single wiki, that way we'll have more users on the one wiki and we'll have improved content sharing. This is because all three wikis are rather small--Fiction/novelas with around 5 significant contributors, Conworld with about 3, and Basilica with about 2--and being together would be more of an encouragement to all of us, as well as for newcomers, knowing that we're part of a bigger project.
I don't know if there's any easier way to do this aside from copying individual articles from one wiki to another... If this is what it takes, well, I'm willing to do that work. That is, if you think it'll be a good idea to combine these wikis... --Yunzhong Hou 17:42, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh and by the way, I've just found two other wikis--fanfiction and fantasy--which are both abandoned, and copied their content onto the Fiction wiki, as the content is similar and can be useful to our team. Do you think adding a note to their pages on Wikia Central, directing them to a more active wiki, to be a good idea? -- Yunzhong Hou 21:03, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think fantasy should be separate since that's more for documenting fantasy than for creating your own. We don't have a good way of merging wikis, but if those others are inactive, then I'll see what I can do about that. Angela talk 01:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] About Uncyclopedia
I've edited there and it gets a huge amount of pointless pages created every day that waste admin time by having to be deleted. Do you think it would be best to only allow accounts to create new pages as on Wikipedia? Also, you should consider updating the editing toolbar (the buttons that appear at the top of a page when editing it) to coorespond with Wikipedia's (it could use a redirect text-insert button, for one). Thanks.--68.92.150.46 05:18, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if that's needed yet. Have you tried to discuss it with the community there? Perhaps on their village dump? Angela talk 01:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] When you start a new conversation, please don't do so by editing the previous conversation
Ideally, you should using the + tab. If it is unavailable (as it appears to be here, see next topic), please edit the page as a whole. As is, I thought you were replying to a conversation that I was interested in. However, I couldn't find your post until I checked the history for that page. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:47, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry. I guess I forgot to change the edit summary. I prefer to edit the page normally in case people have special formatting on their talk page that I want to be consistent with. Angela talk 01:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Where is the + tab in talk pages for this wiki?
I don't see it. It is present in other Wikia wikis. Just not this one. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:48, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- See "Post a comment" :-) --rieke 05:50, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not seeing on any talk page for this wiki. Not just this page. I am used to clicking the + tab as its location is more predictable than a link in your box. Each talk page may have a different location and link text for that link. Will (Talk - contribs) 09:30, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- Don't you see the "post a comment" link? Is English set as the default in your preferences? Angela talk 01:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] user babel templates
Hi Angela!
Do you know why the babel-templates on my userpage do not look like they should? Only the german one is in color with frames, the others are only text.
see http://klingon.wikia.com/wiki/User:Lieven
Reply to this in any way you like, thanks, Lieven 16:30, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- Now I reply to my own question, maybe it's still interesting for other people, but I might be wrong too. Please tell me if so.
- I noticed that the different templates are programmed in a different way, the german uses table commands including colors, and the english and the others work with "TD Class". I guess that's the reason why it doesn't work.
- How can we solve this problem? Any suggestions? Lieven 12:24, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- It may be because TD Class is not defined in MediaWiki:Monobook.css. Splarka would know more about this than me. Angela talk 01:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Harry Potter Wiki
The Harry Potter Wiki doesn't have a redirect button in the edit bar. Any idea why? John Reaves 07:44, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- The redirect button isn't a standard MediaWiki button, but something the Wikipedians have added on their own via Javascript (along with about a dozen others). They are added via Wikipedia:MediaWiki:Common.js in the section "Extra toolbar options" and are considered experimental. The method they use to insert them requires a newer version of MediaWiki than we currently have (using mwCustomEditButtons[] in wikibits.js). --Splarka (talk) 07:51, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- So does that mean it can't be added? John Reaves 07:54, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- There was a very sloppy method to do it before
mwCustomEditButtons[]but I do not believe it was ever used site-wide due to cross-browser problems (it would take a while to dig it up, too). It isn't hard to create a redirect, just use the format:

#REDIRECT Target Page
- How badly do you need such a button? When we get mw:Extension:CharInsert (hopefully this month) it should be possible to add something very similar to MediaWiki:Edittools. --Splarka (talk) 08:12, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- That's what I've been using, I just don't see why there isn't a button considering the English Wikipedia has one. John Reaves 09:43, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship
Do you know who can make me an Admin? I'd like to do some serious updating to the main page (which is protected) and delete some inappropriate articles along with doing basic vandalism tasks. I can't seem to find any active Admins (or any at all) and would very much like to contribute to this Wiki at an administrative level. If possible, I'd like Bureaucrat status too so I may add other Admins when/if the project picks-up, as I hope to promote it. John Reaves 21:57, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- According to the Special:Statistics page, there are three Administrators. I have identified two, and neither have shown any activity for at least six months. John Reaves 23:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Since it's your first day on that wiki, I'd suggest you spend a bit longer building some content first. If there are pages to be deleted, you can just add a delete tag to them for now. Angela talk 01:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- I have a few thousand edits worth of experience at the English Wikipedia. And if you look at my user contributions at the Wiki, you'll see I have been adding a lot of content and organizing the site. There is no one there to delete the content since there are no active Admins. Please reconsider. John Reaves 01:55, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay. I see your point. I plan to keep editing and cleaning up as much as I can. Would you agree to upgrade me if no Admins show any activity soon, say three weeks or so? John Reaves 20:40, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Okay, sounds good. John Reaves 22:36, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship for Golden Sun Wiki
There are currently no administrators nor berucrats in the Golden Sun Wiki at [1]. I feel that I would do a good job at being an admin there because I have edited the main Wikipedia since August 2006 and I have an extensive knowledge of Golden Sun and its corresponding topics. I have made this request to you because, once again, there are no administrators for the Golden Sun wiki. If I cannot become an admin, please allow another user to become one so our community has more control over the Golden Sun wiki and improving it. You can contact me at User:Eiyuu Kou at [2] or at User:Eiyuu Kou at [3]. Thank you. --Eiyuu Kou 22:58, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Whats going on?
Who is the admin for the prison break wiki? ive recently been on that syte and it is complete rubbish. I did more improvements for that syte in a day then the admin looks like he did...ever. Loads of main charcters and main topics that should of been filled in havent been which i did. and i also sorted that horrible userpage. I was wondering if i could be admin of that page if no-one is sorting it out... thanks --Aron Skywalker 12:30, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Is it possible for me to become the Prison Break Wiki. I know i am responible enough to handle it and i have extensive knowledge on the subject. Im certain i could really help to improve that site. As you said the admins havent ben active for several months, and i get alot of free time to sort this wiki out. Thanks --Aron Skywalker 12:30, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] About Videojuego
I knew there where three burocrauts, but they have been inactive for more than a month in the Wikia. I know two of them personally, and we said them in his discussion what I said to Zuirdj. I don't know if I had to wait to their opinion if they are so much time inactive, sorry if I've made a mistake. Bye. --Mvp14 01:26, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't realise the bureaucrats were inactive. However the admins Chixpy and Gudproyect are active, so I think this community is large enough to choose its own admins via a "requests for adminship" type page. Feel free to create one if Videojuego doesn't have this already. Angela talk 01:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Please rename a category
Will you change the category at the Harry Potter Wiki here, named Charicter stubs, to Character stubs? John Reaves 04:03, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Upload Problems
Hello Angela,
I'm new to Wikia and decided to upload an image to decorate my user page. However, when i've tried to upload the image I receive an error saying "'.' is not a recommended image extension." I don't understand this warning considering the file i'm uploading is titled borgchildren.jpg and i've tried changing the file extension to .gif, .jpeg & other image extensions and receive the exact same message. Thanks in advance for a reply. Poetic 06:14, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply Angela. I don't think i'll have to email you the image because I just realized I found the image (a long time ago) on a pre-existing wiki. The image is located here: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Image:Borg-children.jpg I was wondering - is it possible to use an image on another wiki without uploading? Speaking of using things from other Wikis - i'm having a problem using the speady delete template from wikia on the Christian wiki. Is there a way to use templates from other wikis too? [edit] Proposed Wiki
On the page for proposing wikis it says that in general that wiki proposals should be responded to in 2 to 10 days. I haven't received any feedback on my proposal for wikiMaoist. I've already created a demo, and a similar Spanish-language wikiproject was approved already. I understand that its the holiday season and that there might be more important issues at wikia, I'm only leaving this message because I haven't receive any responce whatsoever so I just want to ensure that my application was considred. I hope that I'm not perceived as impatient I just wan't to know if I applied correctly. Whatever the result of my request is I'm grateful that wikia gave me the chance at fowarding the Maoist Community. --Mao1949 06:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Quick question
I'd like to ask how you make an inter-wiki link. --Wikada - Talk Contributions 20:28, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- For links to other wikis, see Interwiki map for the prefix. Basically, it would the Prefix:Page. For interwiki links within Wikia, the syntax is w:c:name_of_wiki:Page. The name_of_wiki is basically the subdomain, as in http://name_of_wiki.wikia.com. G.He(Talk!) 20:36, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- You can also use a single parameter (|), created by pressing shift+backwards slash (\), to hide the interlinking. For example, Wikia yields Wikia. John Reaves 22:23, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Knitting Wiki
Hi Angela, I saw the knitting wiki by chance some days ago and I noted that there are no other wikis that deal with wool, yarn, fabric etc. Even if there are many people who knit I believe that this wiki will need loads of time to grow, simply because who knits cannot write all too much. What maybe would make sense to pass from a knitting wiki to a general wiki that deals with knitting, crochetry, quilting etc. I am missing a collective name right now. I also talked with sannse about this and the reaction was positive. So was the reaction by Lisa Dusseault in a private mail. Lisa seems to be the only active contributor right now. Well as you probably already noted: I am not a person that is in favour to split up wikis, but to get them together if it makes sense. And for community building normally it makes sense to get them together since they will feel less "alone" and therefore people will start to talk etc. I already wrote a note on the community portal. If you should take the decision to change this wiki to a more general scope I will help to change the mainpage accordingly and use it if people have questions in some of discussion groups I am in to post the answers there and lead them to the wiki. Well I am curious about your thougts. Ciao! --SabineCretella 09:43, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Logo
Hey Angela, I need help, is it okay if I change the logo on the Fanon wiki? Brain40 [talk] [my domain] 11:06, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, you can change the logo. Just make sure the image is called Image:Wiki.png (not PNG) and it should work. Let me know if it doesn't. Angela talk 16:52, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikia Highlights on the main page
When I checked to see if the Fiction wiki was on the list of Wikia Highlights on the main page, I couldn't find it. Instead dug up a list of tiny, not-very-active wikis listed there. The following are smaller than the Fiction Wiki (1240+ pages) and were obtained from that list (I went to their wikis and looked at their statistics page on January 06):
- LOST, 1203 pages
- High School Online Collaborative Writing, 790 pages
- WikiMac, 730 pages
- Buffyberse, 695 pages
- Family Guy, 569 pages
- Future, 516 pages
- The Film Guide, 359 pages
- Gameinfo, 347 pages
- Space, 312 pages
- Calgary, 287 pages
- Pet Diabetes, 249 pages
- Mozilla community, 202 pages
- RC Wiki, 195 pages
- Scrubs, 110 pages
- Silicon Valley Commons, 104 pages
- Cheatbase, 98 pages
- WikiChess, 86 pages
- Prison Break, 69 pages
- Cycling, 45 pages
- Quitting-smoking, 32 pages
- Consumer Information, 22 pages
Some of these, like LOST and School, are okay, since they're sizeable. But others like Consumer Information probably aren't significant projects. There are non-staff members contributing to Template:Home, probably taking advantage of the lack of protection on that site to flood it with their own wikis. I believe that it's time that the place be cleaned up. Thank you.

Please see some proposals at Forum:Logo ideas ([[]]?) and [here]. Cheers. TownCrier 09:18, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- Wikia is not a Wikimedia project. I don't think its appropriate to use their site for potential Wikia logos. There are also potential legal problems with Wikia trying to trademark something that was first available on a Wikimedia site. Angela talk 16:46, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- I meant to suggest a new logo for wikia search and didn't realise. I guess WC is only for the benefit of the encyclopedic cause then. So what's your critique on the logos, I'll upload them all to the forum here. TownCrier 22:53, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- Also, if you're refering to the font of the W being a problem since WP uses that font, please can you elaberate. TownCrier 22:54, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sandbox resetting
I am making a bot that will reset sandboxes on different Wikia every so often. The way it works is that it goes to an older version of the sandbox and reverts it. This version should be what it looks like when it is reset. However, it works on the following that aren't on Wikia: autoclick, autorv and autosummary. I think that there is a way to enable it as it is at the English Language Wikipedia. Could you enable these please or at least at Neverwinter for testing purposes. Also, could Leonbot be bot flagged please. I'll post new comments at Forum:Sandbox resetting. --Leon (talk) 21:36, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- I've actually already got a bot that does this (see User:EssjayBot on en.wikipedia) and was just talking to sannse about setting it up here. I'll poke over to that forum now. Essjay (Talk) 21:44, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] whats the diference
Hi, i was wondering if you could help me to distinguish whats the difference between the wikia project namespace Dofus: and the namespace Help: in the dofus wikia as i want to start putting more complete articles and put them where it corresponds.--Cizagna (Talk) 21:54, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- The Dofus namespace is for running the wiki and the projects and things like policies and developments. The Help namespace is like How do you edit a page or How do you upload an image. --Leon (talk) 21:57, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Notice
Thought I'd let you know that the links on your userpage at the Harry Potter Wiki don't work. I assume you meant to link to Wikia, but I'll let you fix it just to be sure. John Reaves 01:55, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Talk page
I just had a technical question: Is it possible to remove stuff from my talk page? Brain40 [talk] [my domain] 00:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help. On Wookieepedia when I removed stuff from my talk page they said I couldn't, though on swfanon I want to, but I don't know if they'll let me. Brain40 [talk] [my domain] 12:50, 13 Janury 2007 (UTC)
- When I use the archive special page thing, does the info on my talk page automatically go to that special page? Or do I have to cut and paste it? Brain40 [talk] [my domain] 13:06, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, okay, one last question: How do I "cut and paste"? Brain40 [talk] [my domain] 13:30, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Template fetching
Hello, Angela. I visited on Harry Potter Wikia and saw your userpage there, and the template that was somehow fetched there. Long story short, I finally decided to try that of my own, see User:Jack Phoenix and w:c:swfanon:User:Jack Phoenix/Jack. When I try to insert the code (or the same with Jack_Phoenix), it says that template fetch failed, sorry. And whenever I try to fetch central Wikia template, the page I'm editing (my userpage at Harry Potter Wikia) says that "This page does not exist on this wiki." and search for User:Jack Phoenix on Central Wikia.
So, how can I get this to work? My head's going to explode with this...--Jack Phoenix
- I've replied at User talk:Jack Phoenix. Angela talk 23:55, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- I thank you, Angela. It worked out just like it should have been. :)
Thanks a lot! --Jack Phoenix
[edit] Could you please give me directions?
I need help on three things:
- How do I insert a user box on this website?
- How do I insert a background?
- Can I insert a character box?
Please respond on my user talk page. Thank you.

[edit] Logo changing
Do you know how to change a logo on any MediaWiki site without uploading it as Wiki.png? --Tegiiis 23:45, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you mean a Wikia site, that's the only way to do it. For non-Wikia sites, you need to set the location of the image in LocalSettings.php. Angela talk 00:48, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Do you know how to set them in LocalSettings.php? --Tegiiis 02:37, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- Is this for a wiki you host yourself? If so, just add $wgLogo = '/path/to/your/logo.png';. I suggest you read the m:MediaWiki FAQ. If you're talking about a wiki hosted by someone else, you should talk to them about how to do this. Angela talk 03:14, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- I have added this, but what does the '/path/to/your/logo.png' supposed to do? --Tegiiis 19:32, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Stargate Wars Wikia
As copied from my talk page, this is a courtesy message - you need not act on it.
"I have decided to take a few months off (as I am off on archaeological surveys in Europe), and so I am not operating on this wiki until April 2007. In the meantime, I have made User:TheZodiac a Systems Operator, so if you have any hassles, please contact him.
Thanks."
Thanks for your help over the last year, and I'll see you in April. :)

[edit] Logo on Ottawa
This wiki has been virtually inactive since November and I was wondering if you could change the logo for the wiki. Wikada - Talk Contributions 20:05, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Changing the name and namespace for the Non-Canon Star Trek Wiki
Hello, I hope that you will be able to help. The members of the Non-Canon Star Trek Wiki have voted and agreed that we should rename the wiki to Memory Beta. While most pages represent the new name, we wondered if it would be possible to move the namespace to Memory Beta.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You. --The Doctor 01:06, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- I can't do this since there are so many pages already in that namespace which would disappear if I just made that the project namespace. It needs the tech team to change the page titles directly in the database which could take a while before they have a chance to do that. If you have enough willing admins, they could move the pages out of that namespace to the real project namespace and delete the redirects, then I could rename it. Angela talk 20:02, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] ?
Could you give me a link (or links) on the Fanon Wiki to the Media Wiki pages that allow me to change the text and background (for navigational boxes and the background and writing)? Brain40 [talk] [my domain] 22:48, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think you mean w:c:fanon:MediaWiki:Monobook.css. Splarka can help you with the CSS if you need it. Angela talk 03:31, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wiki moving
The "Wiki is shutting down" kind of confused me. What exactly is "Wiki.com"? X66x66
- wiki.com used to be a wiki hosting site but they are about to close down. They were never affiliated with Wikia, even if their home page does currently redirect here. Angela talk 03:31, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Draft policy
Whenever you get the chance, could you please take a look at Wikia:Central user pages and comment on it? Thanks. G.He(Talk!) 04:46, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- I commented at Wikia talk:Central user pages. Angela talk 05:12, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- What if there are cases where users use their user pages solely as their personal "site" or as an online storage for their text (I.e. résumés, job descriptions, personal stories, etc.)? I know that some might become contributors later on, but others may see this as an example to follow and start doing it too. Should they also be kept, or should there be a set boundary regarding the extent of content allowed? I believe that Sannse suggested that perhaps such content may be welcomed at social.wikia.com.
- Another question I have is regarding images uploaded to Central solely for use on user pages of contributors elsewhere. Are there any specific limits to how much they can upload or the content of the uploaded images? Is it okay if they upload images that targets their specific project onto Central only for use on their userpage (I.e. if they're planning to have their Central userpage look like what they'd have on the wiki they're working on instead of a general, non-targeted description)?
- Wikia:Central user pages has been revised to be more user-friendly. G.He(Talk!) 23:52, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Zelda wiki admins
Yesterday you named four users on the Legend of Zelda wiki as admins, but only two of them (Bly1993 and ShutUpNavi) have been given their super admin powers (myself and Thai420 haven't), even though all four of us are listed as 'Sysops' in the user list. What happened? Happyjoe5 20:39, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- I've replied at w:c:zelda:Talk:Main Page. You probably just need to log out and back in. Angela talk 22:19, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalism

[edit] Wiki requests
Angela, were any of the wiki requests put in before the server crash deleted because of the server crashing? Because I put in a request a couple of days before that, and I just wanted to know if I have to put in the request for the wiki again. Brain40 [talk] [my domain] 16:00, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- As far as I know, wiki reqeusts were not affected. There's a bit of a waiting list for new wikis at the moment, but someone will get back to you within a few days. Angela talk 20:54, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Christianity Wiki Request
Hi, Angela. I was wandering if you could make me a sysop on the Christianity Knowledge Base wiki? I'm currently an admin for WikiChristian, which right now is the biggest Christian wiki out there. I don't plan on being a big contributer to CKB, or anything, but I figure I could help clean up some vandalism. CKB has an RfA system in place, but there's not enough active users to make it effective (I know, because I tried it a few months ago, and didn't get any votes). Thanks! -- Justin M. / Talk 23:47, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
P.S. -- My username on WikiChristian and Wikipedia is P.B. Pilhet, not Justin Matas, like on CKB.
- I've asked Archola about this since I'm not sure why he archived the page without making you an admin. Angela talk 02:53, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bad Title?
I am having trouble on the Stargate wiki. The page Stargate: Atlantis, which I am sure is a redirect to Stargate Atlantis, is showing up as "Bad Title". It is part of the main namespace despite the colon, and I think the title is not working because of this colon. The page is not new; it has worked for a while and is only now being rejected. Ideas/solutions? —Marco Polo 21:40, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- Has the project namespace ever been renamed? Is it meant to be SGCommand: or Stargate:? Angela talk 21:58, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- I am pushing for "Stargate Command:", but I don't think the project namespace has ever been called anything other than "SGCommand:". However, there used to be a few "Stargate Wiki:" pages; this did not then seem to be related to any official namespaces, and as such they were fixed. I don't think "Stargate:" itself will ever or has ever been any official namespace. —Marco Polo 04:44, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'll remove stargate from the Interwiki map and see if that helps. Angela talk 02:53, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is still there and I can't seem to do anything to the pages either (e.g. moving, viewing, editing, deleting); is ':' even allowed in a page title aside from namespaces? you can't link to them because a link to stargate:bla is read as a link to "bla" on stargate.wikia.com (the same site) and therefore simply stripping the "stargate:" prefix. Is there any way to rescue the data on the pages ("Stargate: Atlantis" isn't the only one) and delete them? I know they had to have been accessible at some point or else they couldn't have been created. Is this a bug of the new MediaWiki version? The reason this concerns me so much is that it trips up my bot, BotMeister, and adapting it to ignore those pages is proving to be very difficult. For anyone who wants to know, the four pages affected are "Stargate: Atlantis", "Stargate: Continuum", "Stargate: SG-1", and "Stargate: The Ark of Truth". I will settle for simply deleting them, if necessary. —Marco Polo 00:00, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikia Search
I dont see much happening, much discussion. I've been standing by observing some time just reading the thread. Will there be a breath of life for the user base to try out a model or just more discussion? Wondering. TownCrier 06:38, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hopefully something will be able to happen soon since we're installing new servers for search developers to work on. There'll be more news on that once the servers are available. Angela talk 13:53, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Redirect in wiki's URL
Dear Angela!
I'm the founder and administrator of the Hungarian Spamwiki (http://hu.spam.wikia.com). The URL without the country code (so http://spam.wikia.com redirects to the non-working English version (http://en.spam.wikia.com). It has only 11 (!) articles since September 14th, 2006. The Hungarian version had almost 460 articles about spam. Can it redirects to it? 'Cuz lots of Hungarian on-line magazines want to link to Spamwiki, but at times they miss some letters from the URL (I was a moderator on a conference about spams and they make a mistake about the address too).
I think there aren't prime language in wikis, so it can't be the English. If you can, please make a http://spam.wikia.com URL redirect to http://hu.spam.wikia.com, instead of the English version. Many thanks! --blogadmin 20:49, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- For consistency, we're usually keeping the English one at the main URL now. Is there a word in Hungarian which we could redirect to hu.spam to get an easier URL? Or perhaps a redirect like spamwiki.wikia.com would help? Angela talk 02:53, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
In Hungarian the word spam is spam (or sometimes phonetical szpem, but it isn't current) or kéretlen reklámlevél (unsolicited commercial email), so we can't use another word for it. I'm frustrated about it, because I don't understand your resolve based on a the routine not on logic. Thank you for your help! --blogadmin 19:22, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
I have an idea. That isn't enought to put a big link to the English version in the main page of the Hungarian Spamwiki? If not, spamwiki.wikia.com can help. Thx. --blogadmin 19:25, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Template question
I have a question: How do I retrieve a template from another wiki? Brain40 [talk] [my domain]
- If you know what it's used on, click edit, scroll to the end, and you'll see a link to the templates used there. If not, look at Special:Allpages on that wiki and choose to view just pages in the template namespace to find it. Angela talk 02:53, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
