[edit] StargateWars Wikia

Hi again Angela,

  1. Is it possible to have article names beginning with lower-case letters? If so, how do I go about doing this?
  2. Could my Wikia please have a spot on the Wikia Spotlight at some point? Most appreciated.
  3. Is it possible to make it so that when one enters a page title into the search box to the left of each page and click "Go" it goes to that article directly, instead of to the search results? I have put one of these input boxes on the Main Page, but it's still rather annoying.
  4. What are the different types of input boxes? Is there a list somewhere?

Thanks immensely,

ZPMMaker 12:29, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Re: #3 and #4: customizing the search box. and Inputboxes. --Splarka (talk) 06:07, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure the wiki is large enough to be in the spotlight yet, but feel free to suggest it at Forum:Wikia Spotlight for future consideration. Angela talk

[edit] Wikia Poland

Hey, Angela

I've read an email from you about Polish Wikia Centre. I want to ask you about this press conference - where and when it'll happen?

I still think you're the best. You're my hero! :)

Hani

Ps. By the way, can you tell me, what's the pronounciation of word "Wikia"? In polish it's like "Veekya" :)

[edit] Uploading Favicons

I just dropped by the iPod Wiki and noticed that there was no favicon.ico (eg. std wikicities icon). I tried to upload one, not knowing if it would even work (it should be protected from non-admins like me). It instead shows me uploading a 0x0 ico which looks just like the wikicities logo in the image file history (with an upload log entry), and I see no change in the logo on random pages (I tried refreshing). It also created an image description page with my edit summary. This appears to be a very strange compramise between protecting the page and not protecting it, and it is definitely not supposed to do that. I still would like for the icon to work, and in case my first upload was unretrievable, I successfully uploaded the same icon to Image:Favicon2.ico.

P.S. When I say Wikicities above, I mean Wikicities, not Wikia. The standard icon is still that of Wikicities—it should be changed to a Wikia logo. —Marco Polo 18:12, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

You've uploaded it to the correct place, and it looks fine. something.wikia.com/favicon.ico is a 302 redirect to something.wikia.com/images/6/64/Favicon.ico so it can be very persistant in caching, and doesn't work in certain browsers. --Splarka (talk) 05:55, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for your kind comment...

Dear Almighty Angela (I read up a bit on you):

I'm not new to technology by a longshot, but this was was first time "Wikiing." Can we use Wiki as a verb, like Googling?

Being a novice, a question comes to mind: What's the difference between Wikia and Wikipedia? Are you simply complementary competitors? Are there rogues amongst your forces that edit each others' entries to keep each other in check? LOL!

Thx again, and I appreciated your note, which at first I thought was one of those automatic replies to all who are new, but I'm glad it was heartgiven.

Jeff

Yes, I think Wikiing can be used to mean editing a wiki. It's not commonly used yet though. Wikia aims to provide a place for non-encyclopedic content, so it's not competing with Wikipedia. One way to think of it is that Wikipedia is just the encyclopedia whereas Wikia is the rest of the library (and the magazine rack). Angela talk

[edit] Wikia cloak request

Hi, Angela. I'd like to request a Wikia cloak; I started out with an unaffiliated cloak, and I think I've followed all the steps correctly. My IRC nickname is Amina. Hope I'm doing this right! :) « Amina . skywalker (¿Hábleme?) 00:54, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

This should be done by now. Let me know if it hasn't worked. Angela talk

[edit] Remove, please, www.vilenin.info from the black list

In the following 3 cases you have made mistakes with a site www.vilenin.info: 1 2 3

There was no spam, you could check up it using http://www.translate.ru/ or having contacted administrators of those Wiki.

In 1 User:Grep have already rolled away yours editing with the comment "Has returned back of a boat-maniac, has disguised a link under tinyurl" (Compare www.vilenin.info and http://tinyurl.com/juy9x)

Remove, please, www.vilenin.info from the black list, and I promise, that it to appear only in these 3 Wiki

With respect, Aleksandr

Are you the person adding these links? How is adding the same link to the home page of every Russian wiki not spam? How is vilenin relevant to those 3 wikis? Angela (talk) 11:27, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Yes, I am this person;
  • In "every Russian wiki" (Actually not in all) I am adding not only link on www.vilenin.info, I am adding link on www.vilenin.info with thematic to a site and to them text, but I agree, that I have gone too far. For this purpose the optimal only 3 specified wiki
  • I am not bad man. I am editor in DMOZ nejron
  • www.vilenin.info is not bad site. You can see it in
  • How is www.vilenin.info relevant to those 3 wikis?:

1: This is article about Lenin (If you don't khow about him, then read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Lenin)

2:Lenin was a The Great Philosopher (If you don't khow about him, then read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Lenin)

3: Lenin's Mausoleum, also known as Lenin's Tomb, situated in Red Square in Moscow (If you don't khow about it, then read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenin%27s_Mausoleum)

With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.0.33 12:00, 5 September 2006 (UTC) (edited again, Aleksandr 82.208.127.167 18:45, 6 September 2006 (UTC))

Unless another Russian speaker who I can trust says this link is needed on the wiki, I'm going to leave it blacklisted since you have admitted to spamming this on multiple wikis. Spam is not allowed here. Please just accept that and stop trying to promote your own site in this way. Angela (talk) 08:51, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your comments. In 1 User:Grep have already rolled away yours editing with the comment "Has returned back of a boat-maniac, has disguised a link under tinyurl" (Compare www.vilenin.info and http://tinyurl.com/juy9x) Original Russian version: "откат бота-маньяка, замаскировал линк под tinyurl" You can check up translation, for example, by http://www.translate.ru/. I think, that this actions he has already told, that this link is needed on the wiki. He has one of the biggest edits history in Russian wikies. Before, I have already promised you, that my site to appear only in 3 Wiki. Remove, please, www.vilenin.info from the black list. Thanks. With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.3.90 13:59, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

I see no reason for that link to exist in 3 wikis. Trying to force your own site on Wikia like this is simply spamming. Angela (talk) 13:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Ok. 2 and 3 have no visitors and new edits. These are examples died and unnecessary sites on the Internet. I agree with you, that addition in them of relevant links senselessly and will not help to recover them. I promise, that I shall not put there the link to the www.vilenin.info, and I shall not spend time for restoring there my relevant articles removed by you by mistake together with my link. 1 actively develops and as you see, my link there is necessary. Besides in the near future, I shall change design of my site and I shall create its English-speaking version (I am master of applied mathematics and computer science (mathematician, the system programmer)). As consequence, will arise necessity of addition of my link in relevant among popular (I agree with you, that addition of relevant links in died wiki is silly) English-speaking wikies. In popular English-speaking wikies participants actively get rid of a spam besides if you will be not agree that participants have left my link, you can try to over-persuade them, or they will over-persuade you.

I do not see the reasons to leave www.vilenin.info in the black list, you can always bring it there repeatedly if I shall be engaged in a spam. Thanks, with respect, Aleksandr 89.109.9.99.

I have created new design of my site. With respect, Aleksandr 82.208.126.20 23:53, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

External sites are not needed to make the content of a wiki good. Furthermore giving out the link to your own site pegs you as someone trying to promote their own stuff. If you wish for your site to be promoted then you'd better find a member of that wiki that realy thinks that it would be a important addition and have them post that message here as proof. Furthermore, due to it's spamming potential, and lack of purposefull use, I vote that we have a site wide discussion/poll inside the forum on whether or not we should block tinyurl from Wikia to stop spammers from advertising sites on the blacklist. Dantman (Talk) 15:06, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Excuse me, but I think, that you have not read through all discussion or have made it very inattentively. You have named me spammer and the proengine of own resource, it is necessary, that you to apologize before me. Only one fact, that I am the editor in DMOZ (nejron) denies an opportunity told by you. User:Grep have already rolled away Angela editing with the comment "Has returned back of a boat-maniac, has disguised a link under tinyurl". He has one of the biggest edits history in Russian wikies. I think, that this actions he has already confirmed, that this link is needed on that wiki. I am already promise, that I shall not put to other Russian wikies the link to the www.vilenin.info. I shall enlarge www.vilenin.info and create its English-speaking version. As consequence, will arise necessity of addition of my link in relevant among popular English-speaking wikies. In popular English-speaking wikies participants actively get rid of a spam besides if you will be not agree that participants have left my link, you can try to over-persuade them, or they will over-persuade you. I do not see the reasons to leave www.vilenin.info in the black list. With respect, 82.208.121.166
He still hasen't posted here, he may have retracted a comment, but unless you can get him to come and post here then he sure isn't enthusiastic about having your link on his wiki. You just said at the beginning of your comment that I was false in saying that velenin.info is your site, but then later on you say that you are going to expand it. Care to tell us how you can be a outsite person giving a good source while you are also saying you can change the site. Just because you have made a site english accessable dosen't mean that people will flock to adding it to their wiki. Also, removing vilenin.info allows you to place the link in other wikis, you talk about wikis activly removing spam from their wiki, but that is not the case for them all, there are many inactive wikis in which allowing you to place your link will leave it there to near never be removed. And we cannot track where it is because there are hundreds of wiki and there is no central list of changes. Furthermore you are copying statements you have said then directing them at me, if you wish to make a point then take the time to type it out yourself instead of mangling other comments together. Dantman (Talk) 14:17, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Excuse me again, but I think, that you have not read through my previous comment or have made it very inattentively. I understand, that not everyone have university education and furthermore the master's university degree of one of fifty best universities of the world, therefore in the further in discussion I shall use more simple for understanding of the statement. it is necessary, that you to apologize before me.With respect, 89.109.3.148 20:20, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

To User:Dantman:

I didn't say "I was false in saying that velenin.info is your site"

I sad "You have named me spammer and the proengine of own resource, it is necessary, that you to apologize before me."

Velenin.info is my own site! You must to apologize before me for "You have named me spammer and the proengine of own resource".

"there are many inactive wikis in which allowing you to place your link will leave it there to near never be removed", - For such you may use a script as it already did ...

"Furthermore you are copying statements", - because you are not read through my previous comments or have made it very inattentively.

With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.3.148 20:20, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

You were named a spammer before I even came here, I have no point to apologising for continueing something that was already started before I began posting. And the spam blacklist is universal, it can't be selectively configured to affect only certain wikis. Just because you may have a degree dosen't make you correct, especialy in places that have nothing to do with degrees. Since the method of translation here is bluring the lines of what is being said, I to will list out the points of my statements. Dantman (Talk
Ok, you may to apologize before me for "You have named me spammer after Angela remove www.vilenin.info from the black list. With respect, 89.109.0.22 21:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Degrees are not some magical thing that makes you correct, or that makes you instantly smarter than other people.Dantman (Talk
I agree with you, but you see, that in talk with you I need to use the simple English words. With respect, 89.109.0.22 21:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
I didn't name you a spammer, you were already labeled that when I got here. Dantman (Talk
Ok, you may to apologize before me for "You have named me spammer after Angela remove www.vilenin.info from the black list. With respect, 89.109.0.22 21:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Proengine is not a word defined in english(dictionary search) but from it's context it would be believed that the definition would be something allong the lines of someone who promotes something of their own creation. How does adding content to a wiki with links to your own resource not fall under that. If a wiki has a area defined where you can place links such as that such as where we allow people to post links on 3rd party tools made for the site we document then it's ok to place things there. But adding links to your own resource is like trying to promote it. If you tryed that on wikipedia then you would surely be banned. Dantman (Talk) 21:13, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
But I prefer "I offer my own site to examination", not "I proengine my own site". In Wikipedia is no censorship, therefore after users will be convinced, that the link added by me is more useful then present links there they will leave it. By the way, by then my site will be more in size, then now, and have an English version. With respect, Aleksandr 82.208.105.244
The spam blacklist is universal, parts of it cannot be disabled for only one or two wikis. Dantman (Talk) 21:13, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I asked to remove www.vilenin.info from the black list, not from the black list for "only certain wikis". With respect, 89.109.0.22 21:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
If it is not spam, why are you so desperate to add a link to it. Why not contribute actual content to the wikis instead of trying only to link your own website? That is not what Wikia is for. I am not going to remove it from the blacklist since I have no reason not to think you won't simply re-add that link on lots of homepages where it does not belong. Angela (talk) 14:22, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I am added relevant articles or paragraph with my link. It were removed by you by mistake together with my link. With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.3.148 20:33, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

To User:Angela: "I have no reason not to think you won't simply re-add that link on lots of homepages where it does not belong.", - Excuse me again, but it is delirium.

As you know, I could put references to redirects to my site (tinyurl or other) or to put references to other domain names of my site. But I didn't do it because, I only want, that you have recognized your mistake. Understand at last, that inability to recognize the mistakes heavier sin, than their fulfilment. You have already enough dishonoured yourselves, wish you to dishonour yourselves more or recognize, that you are mistaken? With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.3.148 20:54, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I think, that when my site will be more in size, then now, and have an English version, you see, that Wikia need link on it. I will be back and, I think then you are recognize your mistakes at last. With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.0.22 21:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comment of Absurdopedia sysop

Hello Angela, as sysop of Absurdopedia I can confirm that this link added to article about Lenin is relevant. That was not spam. Edward Chernenko 18:34, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

I still think the wiki would be better off without it since this user has been spamming other wikis with the same content. You can write about the topic without needing to link to one site about it. Angela talk

[edit] Random page button

THis is most definitely the wrong forum for this but is there any way to change Special:Random to include items in the User: and Category: spaces instead of the main namespace? The Wikia that would require this functionality is WikiSocial, since, as a social network, all information is stored on the User page (profile) and Category space (groups, common interest). I've answered this. Szoferka 03:54, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Genealogy Wikia

Dear Angela, Our founder (who seems not to have edited an article in the last 13 months apart from a few dozen good reverts early this year) is the site's only bureaucrat. He is reluctant to create more sysops even though one of the greatest contributors (over 1300 article edits in 6 weeks) and constructive thinkers has been nominated and recommended. Please see http://genealogy.wikia.com/wiki/Genealogy:Requests_for_adminship and our founder's reply to my urging: http://genealogy.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Robin_Patterson#Sys_Ops_2

I would like you to make Bill Willis a sysop. Robin Patterson 08:41, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Interlanguage links

Can you enable interlanguage links for w:c:stargate and w:c:es.stargate? Thanks. Also, the wiki language for es.stargate is set to english (interface text). How do you change that? —Marco Polo 23:23, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

The interface is in the right language now. If you still see it in English, it may be because you have English in your preferences, which you can change for that wiki. The interlang links are on the to-do list for the tech team. Angela talk

[edit] Idea on how Wikia can turn a profit

I think maybe if Wikia used a company like doubleclick.net, it would make good ad revenue. Individually a wiki here may get little traffic, but combined it should be enough to satisfy doubleclick.net. Do you think it could work? Tretonin 14:18, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

I think doubleclick ads may be too spammy. We're just testing google and adbrite for now. Angela talk

[edit] Sidebar

Hi! I think that you should change Sidebar for spanish. I think that you can do that editing MediaWiki:Sidebar/es. I would like to put Homepage to link to Portada, and List of Wikia to Lista de Wikias, because those pages are in spanish. Sorry for my english XD

Dark Lord Revan is neglecting his duties. All the wikias he has been allowed to make, are falling apart. Is there anyone else you can put in charge of them?

[edit] iPod Wikia stewardship

Good day, Angela. I took a liking to what was started over at iPod Wiki, and started really filling it out with content, formatting, templates, etc. - much like we've done over at SW1MUSH. Who is the admin over at iPod Wiki? If there isn't one, or there isn't an active one, may I respectfully request investure as an admin, based on my "references" and experience at SW1MUSH (bureaucrat-admin)? I also contribute at Wookieepedia (senior editor), Battlestar Wiki, and Wikipedia itself, with nary a complaint or conflict. I only ask to help get & keep iPod Wiki rolling, and ward off vandals and abusers. Thanks, -- Hawke / Rtufo 15:24, 28 September 2006 (UTC) iPod Wiki - Hawke's User page

[edit] various trekkie things

Hi Angela -- i've been transitioning over to "stexpanded" from "memory-alpha" to try and move some things that have been placed on the wrong wiki, over to the other.

i really like stexpanded, but i think there is an organization problem with the sysops -- and there is a real vacuum when it comes to wiki policy.

  • one user (with no major edits) was awarded admin status with no explanation and began protecting pages that you had recently unprotected.
  • pages i have worked on have been blanked out, again by admins, and replaced with deletion messages without explanation except "there's no way in hell this should be added".
  • i also had some pretty simple (moving articles to simplest possible titles, again, a staple of the wiki idea) page moves reverted before i had a chance to explain myself.
  • another user's submissions were being deleted because admins admittedly had a grudge against them.

now i hear they're blocking out unregistereds. is there some requirement wikia makes for keeping the page friendly and active with policy defining these actions, or are these ideas freely up to the admins who make them.

not trying to stir the pot, just feel like i could have been better received. i have a pretty good record as an admin at Memory Alpha, but i'm having a hard time keeping a cool head faced with the roadblocks that stexpanded has presented. -- Captain M.K.B. 14:39, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SW Fanon Admins

I think sannse was going to check with you on this topic but she's busy so I was wondering if you could check on the admin status, now that the community has matured. I requested to her Aiddat, Ewoksfist, Jasca Ducato, and myself. C3PO the Dragon Slayer would also make a great admin. MaulYoda

Since sannse has been following this, I think it's best for her to make the decision on which people should be admins there. Angela talk

[edit] X-Files Wiki Image Problem

I seem to be having a problem with viewing virtually all images on the X-Files Wiki. The problem has been ongoing for at least a few days but I didn't know where to post such concerns and didn't want to bother you as I thought you might be extremely busy! Is there anywhere that's best to use for posting concerns about bugs/other wiki-related problems, now that the wikicities site status page seems to have died a death?

I don't know whether it's only my computer that's not able to see the images on the X-Files Wiki (I've recently had to deal with some problems with viruses) and would therefore be extremely grateful if you could look at even the first page to see if it is. If so, what can be done to recover the lost files? Anything?

My thanks in advance. --Mulder 17:55, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

I've confirmed the problem is with the site itself, but I can't report a bug on the site because I can't access any e-mail accounts! Obviously, this problem is pretty big as images are usually (if not always) a big part of any wikia site. The exclusion of images ruins the X-Files Wiki - not even the site's logo is being displayed on this site or on the wiki itself. Please help in any way you can; even if you can't, I'm guessing you know someone who probably can. --Mulder 04:21, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi again. Is it possible to transclude an external page into one of my pages? Specifically, I'd like to get the text from here into this. Thanks. ZPMMaker 06:52, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

It is currently possible to use images externally on some wikis, but I don't recommend you do that since it's bandwidth theft and may be disabled in future. Angela talk

Hello, Angela! Due to some concerns over sockpuppets (especially in votes), several admins over at Wookieepedia (myself included) have expressed the wish for a user with CheckUser access. We haven't really discussed candidates yet, but we were wondering how we would achieve this, and if it was at all achievable. An answer to this would be most welcome. I've added this to the list of things the tech team need to work on. Sorry about the problem. Angela talk

[edit] Oh dear....

I may or may not have accidently uploaded the revised logo collection to Image:Wiki.png. If I have done this, it was not vandalism on my part, only a mistake. If I have uploaded it accidently, sorry! If I haven't, there's nothing to worry about.--M Johnson 00:39, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lost password

I know this is the wrong forum to ask, but is there a MediaWiki user level that allows viewing of user's passwords? If so, this user has emailed me and talked tom me in person about how he made a typo in his password (and didn't type his email in), thus not allowing him to log in to Wikia. Would it be possible to get his password back somehow? If so, pleave me a message so I can give you his email. Chrismessage me 03:59, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Reply

Thanks very much for replying to my concerns over the image problem. I was beginning to think it was unsolvable, that other users had realized this and that they were consequently ignoring it. Just out of curiousity, what other wikis are experiencing this problem? Could you give an example, please? --Mulder 10:14, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

dnd.wikia.com is one with the same problem. sannse was making a list of all affected wikis. Angela talk 10:50, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Admining James Bond wiki

I was wondering if you could make me an admin at the James Bond wiki as there isn't a community there and there has been very few visitors in 30 days! I'm 009 over there. --Mulder 11:56, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

No problem. Good luck relaunching that wiki. Angela talk 15:25, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for making an admin there. I was wondering if it's possible to delete the site's entire database as so much of the content has just been copied from Wikipedia, constitutes vandalism or is written about the novels and written stories when I would really like to start anew and make it the James Bond movie wiki with articles written from an "in-universe" point of view, not unlike Memory Alpha, rather than the factual perspective that Wikipedia uses. The only thing that should be kept is the main page, but to remove all the rest of the content is extremely time consuming and possibly unneeded (if the entire database can be deleted). --Mulder 14:04, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
I've replied at w:c:jamesbond:User talk:009
Sorry for my deletions; I was just trying to "relaunch" the site, as it receives hardly any visitors and I thought a movie wiki would prove more popular. Also, I don't see the point of copying wikipedia articles to that site (or any other, in fact) as, obviously, that info is already available on wikipedia and copying them means adding links that have nothing to do with any James Bond releases. I've requested a James Bond movie wiki, but as I am unable to use e-mail, I didn't include it in my request; is it essential? --Mulder 15:03, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
It usually is essential since whoever makes the wiki will contact you first about your request. In this case, I think it will be est to start the content on the existing wiki. Angela talk 05:17, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm afraid that's impossible - the narrative of the books and that of the films were never meant to be artificially fused together; their events and overall timeline is so completely different that, when attempting to push them together, they don't make any sense in any sort of fictional sense. Therefore, it is highly probable that every article written on the "Double-0-Wiki" site will be written from a factual perspective. It would do no good to litter the site with "in-universe" information as it wouldn't make sense with other areas of the site and (if concerning a subject that appears both in the novels and films) it would contradict even itself. --009 11:57, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
The books and films are so entirely different, in my opinion, that it would be best to use the Double-0-Wiki for either information from the books or from the movies, and to create another site that deals with the other media. Both would present the information from an "in-universe" perspective, as factual information regarding the different topics is already available on wikipedia (as established above). --009 12:09, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
How about having a separate namespace for the books? It doesn't look like many people want to add info on the books there anyway, so it's fine for the main focus of the existing wiki to be on the films. Angela talk 06:39, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you so very much for coming up with that solution and for again eliminating vandalism on the X-Files Wiki. :) --Mulder 10:32, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Just out of curiousity, is it possible to delete an entire wiki's database and, if so, how possible? Could a vandal manage to do it somehow or are the databases secure enough? --009 19:53, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm reasonably sure a vandal couldn't do that. I'm not aware of any bugs that severe in MediaWiki ever, and smaller issues than that are fixed pretty fast. Even if they could, we have offsite backups now since we have two colos, so there's no need to be concerned. Angela talk 01:31, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Big project

Hi Angela, I'd like to show you This project, and ask you for some advice. Is something like that possible? Do you know how I could start such a project? Should I do it or is it better to keep every wikia's things on that wikia? Answer on the project's talk page if you can. Thank you and Ciao! --Let's 14:27, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for asking you this, with all the things that you have to do... I'll go to the forum. --Let's 20:37, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
No need to apologise. I just didn't have a chance to comment on it yet. The forum is a better place to get feedback though. Angela talk 06:38, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Interwiki for the Inciclopedia

Hi Angela! I'm a user of Incicolpedia: the spanish Uncyclopedia.

I was wondering if you could change the interwiki link to Valenciclopedia, because it appears as "catalá" but I would like it to appear as "Valencià"

Thanks for your attention--[Fer] 20:00, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

It's not something I can change myself, but I'll add it to the list of things the technical team are doing. Another Inciclopedia bug was recently fixed though, and that wiki now appears on the wiki stats. Angela talk 05:21, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks to the tech team for fixing the bug!--Rataube 15:51, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Namespace name on pl.wikia

How about changing name of pl.wikia.com from "Wikia Poland" to "Wikia Polska"? "Polska" is "Poland" in Polish and it will be easier to find in google nad more familiar to people. If you say yes, it should be:

Wikia Poland -> Wikia Polska
Dyskusja Wikia Poland -> Dyskusja Wikii

The second choice to to avoid full name, but it could be also "Dyskusja Wikii Polska" if it's needed. Szoferka 01:36, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

It isn't currently possible to have the project talk namespace be anything other than Dyskusja_(project namespace). This will be fixed when we upgrade. Angela talk 11:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Memory Alpha issue

Angela, you may already be aware of this discussion on Memory Alpha, but if not, I thought it might be of interest to you. The condensed version is that someone want a page about them on MA deleted and potentially blocked from being recreated. I don't know if there are any potential legal ramifications pertaining this issue, but the consensus of the community is that the information is 1. minimal 2. publicly available from a number of other sources 3. pertinent to our stated goals and mission, and therefore 4. should not be deleted. It also leads to a larger discussion about what to do if someone doesn't want (for whatever reason) to have an article about them on MA (or any other wiki, for that matter). I'd be interested in both your personal and Wikia's official opinions on this. Thanks! -- Renegade54 14:22, 17 October 2006 (UTC) (MA admin)

I think the way WikiFur handles this is very good. See w:c:furry:WikiFur:Personal exclusion. Angela talk 06:38, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Job Queue

Hello Angela, Esemono from Halopedia here. Our Job Queue doesn't seem to be updating with our maintence backed up since Oct, 17. Looking at this page Help:Job_queue it says you can run the job queue manually by running maintenance/runJobs.php is this something we can do or something you can do? -- Esemono 13:07, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

John said that it's something only the tech staff can do. The issues is related to them being in the middle of transfering the cron jobs between colos. We've hired a network consultant who will be able to help with this next week. Angela talk 15:34, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks good to know its being taken care of -- Esemono 01:40, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Runescape Wikia Adverts

[edit] "Wikia messages"

I'd like to point out that the logo to the Wikiality Wikia includes the Wikipedia logo, which is copyrighten. While I'm not sure about fair use/parody, it is technically copyright infringement. -- Zanimum 18:28, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I think it's fair use since it's a parody, but I've pointed Jimmy to your message so he can decide if the Foundation cares about this. Angela talk 02:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
And he's passing it on to Brad. Angela talk 03:32, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blocking IP

Hi, Angela! On Oct, 13 04:43 you block IP's class numbers 213.76.96.0/20 on Nonsensopedia ([1]) for one week. It's not fair, because this IP's are dynamic dialup adresses (see: [2]). I can't edit this Uncyclopedia :( Please, unblock this IP's class numbers.

This is unblocked now. Angela talk 11:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

BTW: Why new URL's containing "wikia.com" are suspected for spam??? It is absurd! :) Sorry for my bad English. 213.76.98.74 21:16, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

There's not currently a way of whitelisting pages from the captcha. However, you can use the interwiki link [[Wikia:Whatever]] instead of using the whole URL which shouldn't trigger the captcha. Angela talk 11:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wookieepedia Userpage

  • Hello Angela. FYI, a template fetch or something like that failed on your Wookieepedia userpage. I'm no techie, so you probably have a better understanding. P.S. I once mistook a different Angela on Wikia for you. Oops. I go by Atarumaster88 on Wookieepedia.
Thanks for pointing it out. It's a bug with shared templates that is often fixable by purging the page. Angela talk 02:18, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] To many user names

Every time I type out my wikia user name. I have a new user page. How can I put them all on one page or is it not possible?

What do you mean? Are you getting the capitalization right? Or do you mean you have to make a new page for each wiki? Angela talk 02:19, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Ban problem at STExpanded

[edit] Blocked?

heya, I'd like to know why i'v been blocked, seeing that iv not even begun posting here. thanks~

Since you just posted here, you're not blocked on this wiki... Could you give me some more details about where you think you're blocked? It's most likely because you share an IP with someone who is blocked. --Angela talk 10:21, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sysop

Can I get a sysop and how can I get a sysop to the Futurama Wiki? --Bender Bending Rodriguez 17:48, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

I'll do that now. Angela talk 11:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sysop of

Can I also get a sysop to the normal site and the Simpsons Wiki? --Bender Bending Rodriguez

What do you mean by the "normal" site? You don't have any edits on the Simpsons wiki. Angela talk 04:34, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
The normal site is this site, Wikia. --~BENDER 23:49, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Do you mean the Central Wikia? I don't think you have any need to be an admin here. What exactly is it you want to do? Angela talk 04:51, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Which wiki do you mean? You're not blocked on this one. Angela talk 04:34, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Angela, Thanks for help with Sustainable Community Action yesterday. It may have been a relatively small thing but appreciated anyway Philralph 08:32, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unusual numbers on Pen Pal Wiki

Hi Angela. A certain individual (IP 81.177.14.26) has been adding some random number to the end of c:penpal:Wiki. You reverted it (thanks), but now it's been done again. Is there any particular reason that somebody would persist in putting some seemingly random and pointless number at the end of the article? Thanks, Markdarb 04:55, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

See: Forum:String_of_numbers_type_vandalism (not a lot of help though). --Splarka (talk) 05:30, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
It's probably some sort of spam bot. Just revert it you see it again. If it starts happening too often, we can block all long numbers, but that can sometimes interfere with genuine edits. Angela talk 02:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikia:c:dofus Advert

I've cut the original message since it was being interfered with. igsky and gogoer are now blocked. See also my reply on w:c:dofus:User talk:Cizagna. Angela talk 09:32, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Permissions on Dynasty Warriors Wikia

The Dynasty Warriors wiki no longer has bureaucrats. Could you restore Whopper's bureaucrat permssions on there (he's the founder)? Serov 08:05, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't think it's a good idea considering he went round adminning people who had very few, or even no edits. Angela talk 08:10, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Well, if he doesn't show up and the necessity for permissions comes up (like persistent vandalism for days, necessity for deletion of some pages for content purposes or whatever), is there a place where I can request permissions if I'm still the only active editor? Or is it better to just rely on staff members? I don't want to be too forward here as I've only just started editing the wiki tonight, but I'm hoping to expand it to the point of presentability, and it may end up attracting vandalism. Serov 08:15, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Any of the community support team can give you adminship if you need it unless you're banned on another wiki. It's best to make some edits and get involved with the wiki before worrying about permissions since they aren't really needed on a new or small wiki. Angela 08:24, 3 November 2006 (UTC)/17:14, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I'll keep that in mind. I don't anticipate the wiki needing administrators until far down the line, but I figured I'd ask just in case. Thanks for your help, in this and my my other questions tonight. Serov 08:42, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SgWWikia

G'day once more.

  1. Is it possible to export every single page in my wikia without having to type each article name into Special:Export?
  2. Is it possible to make new page namespaces? This would need support in the search function...
  3. I am attempting to set up a board of users with various different permissions. At this stage I am the only one with delete and protect permission, and the only way of allowing others such priviledge is to make them sysops. However, I wish to set up groups who can only delete OR protect, not both. Is such a thing possible?

Thanks very much for your continued support.

ZPMMaker 04:20, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Edit: don't want them all to be able to block users, either... ZPMMaker 04:33, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

You can export all articles by downloading the database. I can add new namespaces for you as long as no pages already exist in that namespace. There aren't separate groups on Wikia for delete and protect. If you can trust someone to do one of
